Background

When Rebekah Cornell and her husband, Bryan, met in 2008, they shared an entrepreneurial spirit. At the time, Rebekah was a marketing assistant for the earthmoving division at Liebherr while Bryan was an electrician for Northrop Grumman — despite their corporate careers, they ultimately wanted to be their own bosses. After they were married, Bryan encouraged Rebekah to pursue a work-from-home career, so she leveraged her marketing background to start SEO Hampton Roads, a web design and SEO company. But Rebekah soon discovered a career in marketing wasn’t for her, so she turned to Amazon — and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Challenge

Well, history and a whole lot else. After launching their Amazon business Totes McGoats, LLC in 2013 with a few private label products, Rebekah was reminded that “with every business you need money to make money.” Things were going well, but the problem with private label, she says, is that you need to invest in a lot of inventory up front.

Being Your Own Boss with an Amazon Business

Rebekah remembers, “I just kept thinking, ‘Where do we get the money to do all this?’ My husband had recently lost his job and we had just had our first child. We started learning about other ways to sell on Amazon, like buying from wholesalers and drop-shipping. In 2016 things really clicked for us. We started selling as much as our credit cards would allow us to purchase, but gaps in cash flow prevented us from growing.”

She is of course referring to the two week delay in her Amazon income payouts. Not only was Rebekah’s business not growing as a result, she often had to remove listings from her storefront as well. She was using credit cards to cover as much as she could, but the spending limits only went so far. And she was approved for a short-term business loan, but the quick payback structure wasn’t a fit, either. Then, she learned about Payability in an Amazon drop-shipping training group called Fast Forward Freedom.

“Once we found out about Payability, all of our cash flow problems were solved.”

The Result

Since partnering with Payability in September 2016, Rebekah has seen her business grow by leaps and bounds. Her business has grown from 150 product listings to 400 (and growing!), her private label business is increasing from three products to five, and sales have jumped about 400% per month. What’s more, she’s hired an employee to help manage her product listings, and hopes to hire another this year to help with customer service and inventory purchases.

What’s the best part? Her husband quit his full-time job to help Rebekah with Totes McGoats.

“Our goal that Bryan and I have worked toward since we have been together has been to be our own boss and work from home. In March 2017, Bryan put in his two weeks notice at work. This is a direct result of working with Payability. Without the cash flow to sell more items and source more products, we wouldn’t be where we are today.” Rebekah and Bryan are living their dream: being their own boss of a thriving Amazon business and working out of their home to spend more time with their two daughters.
